On the morning of July 14, a delegation led by the Office of Industrial Economics of Thailand's Ministry of Industry visited the UCLG ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC). Miao Chengchao, Vice President of BRLC, met with the delegation, and the two sides held a symposium and exchanged ideas on economic and trade cooperation. Guo Weihong, Deputy Secretary-General of BRLC, also attended the meeting.
During the symposium, Miao Chengchao provided the Thai delegation with a detailed introduction to Hangzhou's industrial strengths, the functional role of the BRLC platform, and the long-standing economic, trade, and people-to-people cooperation outcomes between Hangzhou and Thailand. He also shared practical experience of local cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative in fields such as cross-border trade, industrial matching, and global expansion for businesses.
The Thai delegation briefly outlined Thailand's industrial development plans and its need for economic and trade cooperation with China, highlighting the platform advantages of the Business School of Thammasat University and ASEAN Business Association in serving ASEAN's industrial and commercial enterprises.
Following in-depth discussions, both sides agreed that Hangzhou and Thailand had strong industrial complementarities and immense potential for market alignment, offering vast opportunities for collaboration in trade and investment, industry-university-research integration, and small-and medium-sized enterprises(SME) partnership.
Going forward, the two sides will establish a regular communication mechanism, and continuously deepen multi-level exchanges among local governments, enterprises and universities. Leveraging the BRLC platform, they aim to build a bridge for Chinese and Thai enterprises to connect, pragmatically promoting collaborative local economic and trade development between China and Thailand under the Belt and Road Initiative to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
During their stay in Hangzhou, the Thai delegation also visited the Future Smart Digital Hub of China Data Valley and the Zhejiang University Alumni Headquarters Economy Park for field visits and exchanges.
