2021 UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting Kicks Off

The 8th UCLG ASPAC CongressMeeting was heldvia video teleconferencefrom 7th to 9th September, 2021. The UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting was also held during the session. Secretariat ofUCLG ASPAC Committee on Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC)was invited.


Du Shigen, Deputy Secretary-General of BRLC Secretariat, delivered a report in the UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting. Since the year of 2020, BRLC Secretariat had been active in operating the Chinese-English official website for the joint researches with UCLG ASPAC Secretariat, and for the promotion to absorb more members, as well as for the communication in post-pandemic era. In online channel, there were a series of meetings, including “2021 ASEAN-China Governors/Mayors’ Dialogue” and “2nd Sino-Swiss Sustainability Forum”. In offline channel, “A Close Contact with Beautiful Countryside for Foreigners Living in Hangzhou”, “Belt and Road Youth Forum of 2050 Conference” and many other thematic activities were hosted. In the near future, more cooperation among relevant cities under “Belt and Road initiative” background would be enhanced.


UCLG is the biggest worldwide organization of united cities and local governments at present. It has attracted more than 1,000 city members and 112 national local government associations from over 140 countries and regions.

The proposal of setting up BRLC, within the framework of the World Organization of UCLG ASPAC, was jointly initiated by the Hangzhou Municipal Government and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. In May, 2017, it was inaugurated at the 1st Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, with the Secretariat ofUCLG ASPACcommittee on BRLClocated permanently in Hangzhou. Since the establishment, committee has executed according to the mission of Openness, Cooperation, Sharing and Win-Win. BRLC, based within the framework of UCLG ASPAC, is to be committed to integrating the Belt and Road Initiative to various and practical programs and activities of exchanges and cooperation among local governments, providingopportunities in cooperation with regards to economic trades, cultural connections, social governances and other perspectives. Up to now, UCLG ASPAC committee on BRLC has attracted 83 members from 31 countries.
