The “Belt & Road” Exhibition was held online from April 12 to 15, 2021. The Secretariat of UCLG ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC) attended the Exhibition upon invitation.

The Exhibition opened at 15:30 (Beijing time) on April 12. Michele De Gasperis, President of the OBOR Italian Institute, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. He said that both China and Italy are representatives of ancient civilizations. In addition to infrastructure, the “Belt and Road” cooperation also covers cultural industries, industrial buildings, historical sites, museums, films and music. The OBOR Italian Institute aims to establish a platform to facilitate the communication of institutions with different economic and cultural systems, to discuss together opportunities in the international market, and to contribute to the China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism 2022.

Chinese Ambassador to Italy Li Junhua attended the opening ceremony upon invitation. According to Mr. Li, the “Belt and Road” cooperation between China and Italy has its historical origin and practical significance. During the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the two governments supported each other and the two peoples helped each other so that China-Italy pragmatic cooperation in various fields made progress while maintaining stability and the bilateral trade volume hit a record high. Meanwhile, the Belt and Road broadened the road for close exchanges and cooperation between China and Italy in the field of culture and tourism. The two sides are always expected to view China-Italy cooperation from a strategic and long-term perspective, effectively implementing important agreements reached by the leaders of both countries on jointly advancing the “Belt and Road” cooperation, grasping the open, connected and win-win nature of the “Belt and Road” and thereby facilitating practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Vice President of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) Jiang Jiang was invited to attend the opening ceremony. He spoke highly of the Exhibition, saying that China and Italy, respectively located at the beginning and end of the ancient Silk Road, are natural partners for the “Belt and Road” construction. In 2019, the two countries signed a MOU on the “Belt and Road” construction, which injected new impetus into China-Italy cooperation. By co-building the “Belt and Road”, China and Italy have further complemented their development strategies, deepened their pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and investment, set up a platform for people-to-people exchanges and consolidated the traditional friendship between the two peoples.

Eugenio Giani, President of the Toscana Region, said that the cultural and commercial ties between Toscana and China have a long history. They are based on mutual understanding of the two peoples. Both China and Italy should continue enhancing their friendship on the historical basis and strengthening exchanges in science, technology and tourism so as to benefit the two peoples and make contributions to the friendship between the two countries.

This Exhibition, organized by the OBOR Italian Institute on the theme of “culture, tourism and lifestyle”, includes seminars, urban project promotion,B2B conferences, etc. It aims to conduct exchanges on the “Belt and Road” initiative and explore the cooperation between Italy and China in tourism, humanity and local areas under the framework of the “Belt and Road”.

The OBOR Italian Institute is a member of BRLC. Both OBOR Italian Institute and BRLC are committed to developing exchanges and cooperation under the framework of the “Belt and Road”.
