The sound of pines reaches the sea; the reflection of the ancient moon is shimmering on the surface of the West Lake.The “4th Hangzhou International Day” Opening Ceremony was held by the Qiantang River on the morning of September 5. Zhu Congjiu, Vice governor of Zhejiang Province; Liu Xin, Vice Secretary of Municipal Party and Mayor of Hangzhou; Tong Guili and Zhu Jianming, both municipal leaders; and Wang Jianyu, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences all joined in the event with Zhu Congjiu’s directing, Liu Xin’s speech and Ke Jixin’s presiding.
The 4th “Hangzhou International Day” came at the time of the fifth anniversary of G20 Hangzhou Summit and one-year countdown to the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games. All the attendants showcased their passion for the day. As for the online attendants, representatives of ambassadors to China made videos to express their best wishes for Hangzhou; Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) sent a congratulatory letter to show everlasting cooperation anticipation on behalf of the OCA family in Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, crossing national bounders to make the world as a unit; Huo Yuzhen, Special Representative of Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the ceremony virtually. As for the offline attendants, Fernando Lugris, Uruguay Ambassador to China, and Sabino Vaca Narvaja, Argentina Ambassador to China, attended the offline activities.
In the opening ceremony, Scientists West Lake Plan was globally released, “2021 Qianjiang Friendship Ambassadors” awards ceremony was held, Memorandums of friendship and cooperation for Hangzhou and Montevideo, Uruguay (the capital), Cordoba, Argentina (the second largest city) were signed, “China-CEEC Smart City Center” was officially unveiled. Ahead of the opening ceremony, Liu Xin met with diplomatic envoys to China, directors of international organizations, and Qianjiang Friendship Ambassadors.
In the speech, Liu Xin suggested: “The theme of this 4th Hangzhou International Day is ‘city’, implying the mutual vision of ‘Better City, Better Life’. We are committed to building a digital city, inserting power in innovation and vitality. We are committed to building a green city, contributing to ecological civilization advancement. We are committed to building a cultural city,showing the name-card of long history and diversified cultural inheritance. We are committed to building a happy city, sparing no efforts to become a pioneer in common prosperity. We are committed to building an open city, upgrading internationalization. I sincerely hope that more and more international friends and friend cities could join us to build a better future together.”
Since the 4th “Hangzhou International Day” opening ceremony, a series of thematic activities with regards to internationalization have been held to comprehensively display the practices and achievements of Hangzhou in worldwide communication and cooperation. The thematic exhibition of “Hangzhou International Day” is held at the same time. The thematic exhibition consists of five sections, including international invitational exhibition, achievement exhibition of international sister cities and BRLC, and business trade industry exhibition, etc.. In international invitational exhibition, artworks from 12 countries were collected from France, Italy, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.In business trade industry exhibition, Hangzhou’s digital reform and opening-up policies achievements are shown. The digital reform leads to modern industrial system establishment and the opening up policies stimulate the international business trade environment improvement.
Other activities will last until the end of September. They are visits to the main venues of Hangzhou Asian Games and Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, “China-Italy” Cultural Week of Romance, “I endorse Hangzhou brands” cross-border livestreaming show, “Creating the World” virtual roadshow, public fitness activities to welcome the Asian Games, Countryside Rice Festival, etc.
