Secretariat of UCLG-ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation Attends the 2020 Working Meeting for UCLG Members from Mainland China

The 2020 Working Meeting for UCLG Members from Mainland China was held by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in the morning of July 9. The meeting was addressed by Song Jingwu, UCLG-ASPAC co-president and vice chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Guan Litong, deputy director general of Department of European & Asian Affairs, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, presided over the meeting and made a work report. Zhou Shu, director of Foreign Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal People's Government and secretary general of the BRLC, reported the BRLC's work. Song Jingwu fully affirmed the achievements since last year and gave requirements for future work.

Zhou Shu reported on the BRLC's performance since 2019 and the plan for 2020. In 2019, the BRLC set up platforms of exchanges and cooperation to pool resources for innovation and entrepreneurship; strengthened the upgrading of the BRLC by improving its working mechanism; and implemented the policy of “going global” and “bringing-in” and strived to increase the BRLC's influence so as to promote cooperation and exchanges among local governments along the Belt and Road in various fields. Since the beginning of this year, the BRLC has proactively carried out international cooperation in combating the epidemic and promoted online exchanges among its members through its official website. It has innovatively started cooperation on education and personnel training regarding the Belt and Road, promoted its work with the help of international events for brands in Hangzhou and expanded the network of the Belt and Road based on opportunities from the Asian Games. The BRLC will continue to further and enhance cooperation along the Belt and Road.

The meeting was attended by 81 representatives from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and 29 UCLG member cities in mainland China including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
