Over the past 11 years, the Belt and Road initiative has significantly contributed to global connectivity, economic growth, and sustainable development. CGTN's Sun Tianyuan reports.

The Belt and Road Initiative, launched in 2013, has transformed the global landscape, promoting infrastructure development and fostering international cooperation across continents.

The initiative has supported the construction of thousands of projects worldwide – from railways and ports to energy grids and digital highways – creating new opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange among its partners.

Dr. Wang Yiwei from the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era calls this a "golden era" for global collaboration.

WANG YIWEI Vice President, Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era "This is a lot of hard infrastructure achievements –everybody knows about that. But the second stage is more focused on institutionalized cooperation. We signed many MOUs not just between countries, but also with companies and organizations. That's also very important."

The numbers speak for themselves. To date, over 150 countries and 30 international organizations have signed more than 200 Belt and Road cooperation agreements.

A white paper shows that from 2013 to 2022, trade between China and its BRI partners surpassed a staggering 19 trillion US dollars in total import and export volume.

As the initiative matures, its focus is shifting towards emerging industries like the digital economy and forging a sustainable development path.

Dr. Wang highlights China's experience as a source of inspiration for other nations.

WANG YIWEI Vice President, Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era "China, in the past decades, has witnessed a great transformation, from the agricultural revolution to the digital revolution, and now, the AI revolution. If China can succeed, why not those countries? Chinese modernization gives them hope to achieve their dreams."

SUN TIANYUAN Beijing "11 years on, China continues to deepen international partnerships through the Belt and Road Initiative. The country says, in the future, it will pursue closer and more fruitful cooperation with other nations. Sun Tianyuan, CGTN, Beijing."
