CAIRO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) not only boosts common development, but also strives for human rights progress, said Mostafa Amin, an Egyptian researcher on Arab and international affairs.

Setting a practical model for promoting development through cooperation and advancing human rights through development, the BRI has played a positive role in providing wider human rights protection over the past decade, and sparked inspirations for human rights governance both in regions and the whole globe, he told Xinhua in a recent interview.

Amin said the initiative has significantly helped developing countries overcome their development bottlenecks such as infrastructure deficits, improve people's livelihoods, and continually support human rights development, which has happened in all participating countries, including Arab and African countries.

In Egypt, the joint projects implemented under the BRI have helped improve people's life through constant access to basic life requirements such as health care, job opportunities, and promote peoples' income and living conditions, he said.

The projects have also improved education, enhanced cultural exchange, and the rights and interests of all groups in the society, he added.

"Paving a road in a remote neglected town in Africa within the initiative improves peoples' lives, provides job, and brings hope for better development, which in turn means better human rights for all," he said.
