The press conference for the Belt and Road Global Chambers of Commerce and Associations Conference (GCCAC) 2023 was held on November 10 in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian Province. Leaders including Lu Jing, Standing Committee Member, Director-General of Publicity Department, and Director-General of United Front Work Department of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, Zhang Wei, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Global Times, and Yu Jian, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of Fujian Federation of Commerce & Industry, met the press and talked about the preparations for the GCCAC 2023.

At the press conference, Lu first provided an overview of the event, providing updates on the progress it’s been made in organizing the event. Under the guidance of the People's Daily and All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, the GCCAC 2023 will be hosted by the Fuzhou Municipal People's Government, Global Times, Fujian Federation of Commerce & Industry, the Management Committee of Fuzhou New Area, and the Administration of Fuzhou Area of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and it will be organized by the Information Office of Fuzhou Municipal People's Government and Fuzhou Federation of Industry and Commerce. The conference is scheduled to take place at Fuzhou Digital China Convention and Exhibition Center from November 22 to 24.

Lu highlighted three aspects of the conference. First, the participation of the chambers of commerce and associations has reached a record high, with over 200 domestic and international associations confirming the attendance of over 1,000 guests from various countries including the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, Armenia, Indonesia, and Tonga. Second, the exhibition boasts a more diverse lineup, featuring the participation from foreign embassies to China, domestic and international chambers of commerce, and numerous enterprises. These entities will conduct on-site promotion of international project investment, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Third, the conference addresses a more comprehensive range of topics. With a focus on "physical connectivity," "institutional connectivity," and "people-to-people connectivity," the conference integrates development strategies and important measures. There are a series of forums revolving around topics such as economic and trade cooperation, digital economy, rural revitalization, cultural and creative industry, and global expansion of China’s brands, further promoting all-round connectivity in multiple fields.

Lu underscored that the GCCAC 2023 is a significant and joyous occasion for Fuzhou. Taking this opportunity, Fuzhou can leverage its strategic location to foster interconnectivity and expand avenues for project cooperation to build closer ties with the global community. In addition, the conference contributes to showcase the modern and international aspects of Fuzhou, creating a new image for the flourishing city. In recent years, Fuzhou has actively immersed itself in the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with impressive achievements. It has developed a relatively comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network which reaches sea, land, and air, organized several international exchange activities, and cultivated robust economic and trade relations with countries participating in the BRI. Notably, Fuzhou's economic and trade exchanges with these countries have yielded fruitful outcomes. Boasting a long history, a deeply-rooted culture, superior ecology, and rapid development, Fuzhou received the first United Nations Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities last month, the only city in China with this honor. The primary participants in the conference include chambers of commerce, industry associations, and other NGOs. Through a series of activities such as forums, exhibitions, and inspection tours, the conference aims to facilitate insights exchange and experience sharing, injecting strong impetus into Fuzhou's high-quality development. Also, the event is poised to elevate the cooperation between Fuzhou and other countries to new heights, presenting an excellent opportunity to showcase Fuzhou's positive image to the world and attract global visitors.

When discussing his expectations for this year's conference, Zhang Wei highlighted that the GCCAC 2023 stands as the first nongovernmental international cooperation platform, with international chambers of commerce, industry associations, and other social organizations as its main participants. Successfully held three times, the conference has witnessed a gradual increase in the number of participating countries and regions that went from 12 to 60, with the total number of attendees rising from 2,000 to 20,000. More countries and regions are actively joining the event, fostering opportunities for win-win cooperation.

The GCCAC 2023 has also evolved into a significant international economic and trade event. Zhang anticipated that via this conference, guests, representatives, and friends from all over the world will be able to experience the rich history and beautiful scenery of Fuzhou. Crucially, they will be able to leverage the international cooperation platform to establish diverse business connections and friendships, contributing to the high-quality development of the BRI.

Yu Jian emphasized the significant role of the upcoming GCCAC 2023 in fostering the development of Fujian Province and Fuzhou City across multiple dimensions. First expanding the "circle of friends" and secondly, forging a "cooperation chain". This year, important business associations in over 30 countries and regions will participate in the conference, a substantial increase from the previous session. The exchanges between old and new friends will foster cooperation among the business sectors of various countries. Chambers of commerce and associations are pivotal links to improve win-win cooperation among diverse countries' business communities with inherent advantages in connecting government, enterprises, and the financial sector. The conference will enhance the efficient connection and cooperation among industry and supply chains in various countries and the business sector will see more opportunities for market access, investment, and growth.

Additionally, the event will enhance people-to-people connectivity. Fujian, a core area of the Maritime Silk Road for thousands of years, boasts a long history of warm exchanges with friends from across the globe. Fujian and Fuzhou stand ready to welcome global visitors to experience the charm of a slow-paced life featuring both a prosperous economy and a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Another note of interest is that the GCCAC 2023, designed around the theme of: "Linking Global Chambers and Associations, Promoting Quality Belt and Road Cooperation," has set up six sub-forums, including the China-Indonesia Economic and Trade Investment Symposium, the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, China’s Brands in Global Expansion Forum, Digital Economy Cooperation Forum, the Cultural and Creative Industry Development Forum, and the New Consumption Industry Development under Rural Revitalization Forum. Representatives from chambers of commerce and associations, entrepreneurs, and experts in various sectors of the Belt and Road countries will converge at the conference to explore new opportunities for pragmatic cooperation.
