Two Chinese dignitaries were given Pakistan civil awards by Pakistan's Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque on behalf of the country's president at the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing on Thursday.

Zhao Baige and Geng Ying were recognized for their efforts in serving Pakistan and strengthening China-Pakistan relations. They have both contributed to the realization of projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in separate fields in Pakistan.

Zhao was awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Crescent of Excellence) for her instrumental role in promoting friendly relations and high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China. She has also played a crucial role in the realization of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

“As Chair of Research and Development International (RDI), which is supported by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhao launched the Karamay Initiative, which aims to promote economic and commercial ties between Pakistan and China,” the presidential decree highlighted.

RDI has been promoting BRI research and practice since its launch in 2015. With its solid think tank research, international cooperation, and extensive corporate network, RDI has gained recognition from several institutions.

Geng was awarded the Sitara-i-Pakistan (Star of Pakistan) for her contributions to cementing China-Pakistan bonds, especially in the field of culture.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, Geng produced a special artwork series titled Oriental Charm: Chinese Cultural Trip to Pakistan. This series is regarded as “a commendable extension of the Pakistan-China friendship”, the presidential decree noted.

The China Cultural Heritage Foundation, of which Geng is the President, set up the Belt and Road Fund in 2016 and signed cooperation agreements with Pakistan in 2017, focusing on cultural heritage protection, public welfare undertakings, and the culture industry.

“Conferring these awards not only reflects our acknowledgment of the services of the two dignitaries in strengthening our bilateral ties. It also serves as an opportunity to celebrate our friendship,” Ambassador Haque said.
