BRLC Special Working Group Member Wang Jie Visits Nepal and Attends the South Asia Conference

At the invitation of the National Association of Rural Municipality in Nepal (NARMIN), Wang Jie, Deputy Director of Hangzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Member of Special Working Group of the UCLG ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC), visited Nepal from 9 to 12 June 2019 and attend the South Asia Conference held in Kathmandu from October 10 to 11. The South Asia Conference on “Deliberative Role of Local Authorities on Energy, Climate Actions and DRR” was jointly hosted by the NARMIN, the Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) and the UCLG ASPAC. During the conference, the UCLG ASPAC held an internal conference of South Asia region.

During the South Asia Conference, Wang Jie delivered a speech on behalf of the BRLC at the opening ceremony. Wang explained the background and tenet of the BRLC, reviewed its main activities since the establishment, and expressed thanks to the NARMIN for its support to the BRLC as one of the first founding members. Wang sincerely hoped to work with Nepal and South Asian countries at local government level to promote the Belt and Road Initiative.

The South Asia Conference focused on four topics. At the invitation of the host, Wang Jie talked about the third topic – “Renewable Energy” – on behalf of the BRLC based on the typical practices and future measures of Hangzhou in this field that were gathered in advance in collaboration with Hangzhou Development and Reform Commission and Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Economy and Informatization. Wang briefed about Hangzhou's status quo of renewable energy use and general situation of energy conservation, environmental protection and new energy industries, and shared Hangzhou's experience and solutions.

At the South Asia work conference held in conjunction with the UCLG ASPAC South Asia Conference, Wang Jie, on behalf of the BRLC, trumpeted the BRLC and introduced its key tasks in the second half of the year. Wang's efforts have further consolidated the BRLC's relationship with the UCLG ASPAC and related local governments and associations in South Asia.
