China is ready to increase the direct flights between China and Singapore to better facilitate personnel exchange as China is optimizing its COVID-19 response in light of the new situation, Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday.

Li made the remark when meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. He also said that China is willing to make active efforts to facilitate the return of Singaporean students to China for their studies.

Noting that the two close neighbors have achieved fruitful results in bilateral cooperation, the premier expressed China’s readiness to have close high-level exchanges and interactions at all levels with Singapore, deepen practical cooperation in priority areas and elevate the bilateral cooperation.

He also called on the two sides to conclude at an early date the follow-up negotiations on China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement upgrade, earnestly keep the industrial and supply chains safe and smooth, and uphold peace and stability in the region and beyond.

China stands ready to work with Singapore and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to further enhance mutual trust, advance economic integration in the region and promote sustained and steady growth of China-ASEAN relations, Li added.

Lee said the friendship and cooperation between Singapore and China remain unchanged despite major changes in the regional and international situations.

Faced with the new circumstances, Singapore will work with China more closely in such areas as free trade, digital economy and green development, and make new contributions to stability and development in the region and the world, he said.

Singapore welcomes China’s application to join the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement and supports China in joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, Lee added.
