The UCLG ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation Holds Its Council Meeting

On 4 September 2019, the BRLC Council Meeting was held in Hangzhou. This was the first council meeting of the BRLC after its first general assembly at the end of 2018. The meeting was attended by about 50 persons including 19 council member entities. The meeting was called by Dai Jianping, Member of Standing Committee of Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Executive Deputy Major of Hangzhou, and Shen Xin, Director General of Department of European & Asian Affairs, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, on behalf of the BRLC. They also spoke at the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Chen Weiqiang, Presiding Chairman of the BRLC and Deputy Mayor of Hangzhou. Participants included 11 council members from Finland, Italy, Laos, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Nepal, Wuhan, Changchun, Changsha, Yiwu and other regions as well as old and new members like Leeds (UK), Kloster (Ukraine), and Baguio (Philippines). At the meeting, augmentation of candidates for chairman and secretary general of the BRLC were determined, and transactions including augmentation of members and candidate of deputy secretary general were deliberated and approved. One of two chairmen would be appointed after the new Mayor of Hangzhou Municipal People's Government assumed office; the new secretary general and deputy secretary general were Wang Jin, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, and Deputy Director Du Shigen, respectively; and it was approved that Leeds (UK), Korosten (Ukraine) and Zhitomir (Ukraine) became new members of the BRLC.
